Metals
Overview
The metal industry exemplifies a severe environment where little can be afforded to compromise. Heat and radiation from a mould application can rise to extremely high temperatures, rendering sub-millimeter accuracies, a major challenge for any sensor technology. Adding to the challenge is the interference of steam, smoke, flames and shiny surfaces.
The Selcom XLine sensor family is a series of laser sensors dedicated to measuring levels of molten aluminium in all common applications required throughout the foundry process. A variety of clearance distances and measurement ranges are available for each XLine series, providing a unique sensor for monitoring pour levels inside of troughs, launders, DC casting lines, continuous caster headboxes, as well as melting and holding furnaces.
Expertise
LMI sensors are designed for harsh industrial environments, with particular success in applications that are exposed to extreme heat or IR radiation. Even in high temperatures our sensors obtain a clear image of the laser spot on hot metal surfaces. In addition to these features, image processing advances in our sensors eliminate inaccuracies caused by secondary reflections that are often produced by shiny metals or alloys.
Applications
Our Metal applications division works closely with System Integrators & Original Equipment Machine Suppliers to deliver the most effective solutions for their particular sensor vision needs.
In order to protect our customer partners' competitive interests, we do not make publicly available detailed specification sheets, manuals, etc. These documents exist in our secure password protected Partner Resource Center.
